This #4000 grit Japanese whetstone is made especially for Town Cutler in Japan.
4000 is a transitional grit used when going from sharpening to finishing a knife blade but can also be used as a finishing stone if the right pressure is applied during use. If you are new to sharpening, this would be a good stone to use for finishing until you feel the need to go to a higher grit.
#4000 grit is within the range of what is considered needed for cutting meat (between 4000 and 6000).
