Japanese natural whetstones have become rare and highly sought after. The stones we carry have been mined in the area around Kyoto, Japan, and have been sourced for us by Mastersmith Shosui Takeda. Each stone is unique and will vary in appearance. As a natural material, measuring the precise grit of each stone is impossible, but we list an approximation.
